On the third day of our trip, we visited the Monastery of Clonmacnoise in the middle of Ireland. It was founded by Saint Ciar\u00e1n in the 6th century and has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ireland. After our arrival we watched a documentary about the history of Clonmacnoise. Many years back a lot of monks lived there to learn and study about religion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After that a tour guide showed us important pillars and their meaning. He also told us more specifically about the monastery’s history. For example it was attacked multiple times by the vikings, because of their wealth and treasures they stored there. Later we had the opportunity to walk around the monastery and admire the beautiful ruins and graves ourselves.
